TOMA is a motion picture editing company helmed by Luis Alvarez y Alvarez.

Luis has an extensive career as a film editor, with a diverse body of work encompassing feature films, television, documentaries, animation, and the art world. Early in his editing career, he worked at Pixar Animation Studios on such lauded films as Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo. Since then, his feature film credits include artist Matthew Barney’s Drawing Restraint 9, Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental documentary The 11th Hour, and Larry Charles and Bob Dylan’s cult film Masked and Anonymous, a collaboration with Academy Award–winning film editor Pietro Scalia.

Recent projects edited by Luis include Breakin’ on the One, directed by Jams&Bash; La Guerra Civil (DAZN), directed by Eva Longoria (Sundance 2021 Premiere); and Siempre, Luis (HBO) (Sundance 2020 Premiere).

TOMA’s clients include HBO, ESPN Films, Netflix, National Geographic, Vice, The New York Times, RadicalMedia, Jigsaw Productions, DAZN, and Sotheby’s.

Luis was born in Mexico City and is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Interactive Telecommunications Program. He has taught film editing in the MFA program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Film Department. He is bilingual (Spanish and English) and is available to edit in New York City and other locations as needed.
